Juca Martins: biography

Juca Martins is a professional photographer since 1970, he's been producing stories for national and international newspapers and magazines, besides several institutional works for company publications, advertising photos, books, posters and calendars.

Numerous exhibitions of his work have been mounted in Brazil, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, Mexico, Cuba, Colombia and Equator. Some of his photos have been acquired by the Museu de Arte de São Paulo-MASP, Brazil and by the Kunstaus Art Museum in Zurick, Switzerland.

He received the Esso Photography Award (Brazil) for a series of stories on abandoned chidren, the Nikon International Award (Japan) twice, and the Vladimir Herzog Award in Human Rights (Brazil), for his photographic coverage on the El Salvador War. In addition, a video on his work called Meet the artist Juca Martins was produced by the Instituto Itau Cultural in 1993.

His other works include the book Antologia Fotográfica, published by Editora Dazibao in 1990 and a portfolio in the book Children of Brasil, published by the Fundação Cargil in 1996. His latest book is São Paulo Capital, with panoramic photographs, by the Instituto Moreira Salles in 1998.
